Has anyone remodeled their bathroom or kitchen yourself. ?
I am so fascinated by these DIY shows. But these so called DIY are not really doing these projects themselves as they always receive the help for the show host who are also licensed contractors.
I awaiting an estimate from a general contractor for my basement remodel and bathroom. I would never tackle the basement myself since I need plumbing for the half bath, drywall and insulation and durable flooring. However, I think I have some great ideas for the bathroom and according the the contractor one of my request apparently is not doable. Fortunately, I saw in a DIY show, that it is doable. Specifically, taking down the water tower to accomodate a vintagge style clawfoot tub. As they did in the show, it might be easier to hire my “subcontrators” to do the plumbing, electrical, flooring instead of hiring the general contractor who I will have to pay in addition to the subcontractors he hires.
Your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks.
I have remodeled one kitchen/breakfast room and completely finished an attic space.
I chose to do those things I knew I could do and hired professionals for the other things. I think that is a practical compromise and in the case of electrical and plumbing can assure that you are in compliance with local codes.
